Copywriting: It is very important to have copywrite laws in the game industry. If you were to make a very complex game you would not want anyone to copy it at all and call it theirs. Their copy or extremely similar game could bring down profits for you. When making videos that include content in video games I suggest you make sure you're saying nothing bad about them. Either do that or just get their company's permission to use it. if you haven't gotten permission the company could take you down by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act , or DMCA for short.
Careers: We had a guest speaker that came to my scientific visualization this past week named Colin Dwan. He works in Prologue Games and he talked about his experience in the game industry as a professional designer. The way he applied to a game design job was by emailing all the gaming companies he could find. He really cleared that confusing part up for me, and it even goes for many non-gaming jobs too. He also taught us about how when a team is working a on game story they make a branch system/diagram giving players options on how they want to continue in the story-line. Most of the time time companies have limited time to make the games. So they have to figure out and decide whether they want to have more options to chose from and a shorter game, or if they want to have less options and a longer game. In the detective murder mystery game "Knee Deep" which Colin helped make, their team decided on making a story-based game with less-options and a longer game. Honestly his talk did not really change much on the way I looked at possibly having a career in game design after graduation. But, he did help me on figuring out ways to apply to other jobs.
